The Wizard No.1 to No.10 1970

February 14th 1970, was a great day for me going in to my local Newsagents that I so often did to buy sweets and comics, A comic on the counter caught my eye, The Wizard No.1 with a Free Sure-Shot Shooter. I bought it and was hooked for the next 4 years, It continued without me until July 1st 1978 when it merged with Victor.

The Wizard Stories In The Red Dagger

The Wizard didn't have any "Annuals" or "Summer Specials" but what it did have was 7 Reprint stories in a 64 page Publication called "Red Dagger". There were 30 of these Comics published between 1979 to 1983.

The First Wizard Story Published was -

Red Dagger No.6 Cast Iron bill - Ran in The Wizard from March 10th to 28th July 1973.



It tells the story of Bill Steele, spotted playing in goal for Kendale Butchers by a scout of fourth division Barrowmere, behind the goal were his faithful dogs Rikki and Lora, who were the best Trail-Hounds in all of Cumberland, that is when they was'nt warning Bill which way to dive when he wasn't even looking at the play on the pitch.

Bill signed for fourth divsion Barrowmere, but his main interest was Trail-Hounding.

We see bill running on the Moors and with his dogs and saving people in trouble, and saving unstopable saves.

By the end he had never let in a goal for Barrowmere, he also won his first England under 23's cap, he was offered to join the England pool, but turned it down because the trailing season was starting for the summer.

Barrowmere and England's loss was the Trail -hound Association's gain. Bill's dogs were as brilliant as Cast-Iron was on the football field. But all over Britain football fans hoped that the keeper who was never beaten would play again -- when trailing ended. What do you think? Did he?

Red Dagger No.9 Terror In The Tall Tower - Ran in The Wizard from september 28th 1974 to January 1975




Don Ballard an English man had recently been left one of the famous Manhattan Skyscrapers in the will of a distant unknown uncle. When he got there he was told the building was haunted and people stayed away from it.
What Don found in the basement baths was an enormous Octopus that came in from the sea via a water passage way.

THE WIZARD BANNER

This is the Wizard Banner for Issue No.1,It only stayed like this until Issue No.8.



From Issue No.9 this Banner had "The Paper with the Footbal Special" underneath which lasted until Issue No.33



A total New Banner for No.34, and lasted untill Issue No.101 this Issue had four new stories starting.



From Issue No.102 untill Issue No.153 the banner had a Yellow Background.



The First Merged Wizard and Rover for issue No.154 which only had this banner for two issues.
Note the "The" has been dropped.



The second Banner for the merge for Issue No.156 which lasted until No.159.



Also came in ared background for the last time Rover was on the banner for Issue No.160



The "The" has returned for for Issue No.161 with a brand new banner.



Also came in a red background



No.180 had "The big 36 page paper" added to the banner, which started in this Issue.



The addition of "The big 36 page paper" has changed places in Issue No.181



Issue No.199 had a new look, which lasted until Issue No.239



Another new Banner for Issue 240 which only lasted for one week.



All changed yet again for Issue No.141 that lasted until Issue No.247.



A complete change for Issue No.248 which lasted well into 1975 except for the Christmas 1974 Issue.



The Wizard came up with this nice Christmas Banner for 1974.



I only have a few after 1974, this is a 1976 Issue with another change in Banner.
